Statement for my Abergele Library Exhibition

Colour/Form

My work is an experiment in colour and form using my surrounding landscape as the vehicle. Putting colours together to see how they react alongside variants of flat areas, textured areas, hard edges, lines and different marks to make striking and vibrant pieces.

Core V

I have exhibited my work at the bottom of the stairs by our studio as part of Core V and we are now going to exhibit along the whole of the corridor on the floor above.

Task -

Contact Venue Cymru about the possibility of exhibiting my work there.

When -

Today

Reflect

Enter the Eisteddfod Visual Arts Exhibition.

Unfortunately I didn't have time to finish the painting I was going to submit but I will enter the competition next year.

Mailing List

I have joined the Oriel Davies mailing list which will let me know of any upcoming exhibitions and opens.

Reflect

Enquire about exhibition space in Llandudno library.

After enquiring about the space I was given a space in Abergele Library for 2 months to exhibit in, I'm very happy with the outcome. The exhibition is on until June 1st... Go and see it!

Oriel Tegfryn review

Iwan Gwyn Parry was the main artist whose work was on show at the Matin Tinney Gallery in Oriel Tegfryn, other artists included Gwylim Prithchard and Peter Prendergast.
Parry's work was terrific, it consisted of landscape pieces of the local area, each painting had plenty of abstracted flair coupled with figurative portions - mainly the mountains in the background, this contrast worked brilliantly. he really used the oil paints to great effect, sometimes washing half the painting out with plenty of terps until only a very thin layer of paint remained while on other sections of the painting there is extremely thick paint which again created accomplished contrast. Some of the peices were also painted in watercolour, these pieces were likewise very good although lacked the contrast and over all feel of the oils.

The Origin of the Irish Sea I - Iwan Gwyn Parry RCA

Parry seems almost obsessed with the landscape he grew up in and very much the emotions they conjure up in him. This is a strong presence in his work at the exhibition, the dark brooding clouds and also the dark brooding colours he has chosen to implement. They seem almost like fantasy worlds, very atmospheric, eerily calm or wild seas, mist creeping in the foreground with idiosyncratic mountains in the background.
The Gallery itself was well lit with good space, making it easy to view and enjoy the work on show. One gripe would be that one of Parry's paintings was mounted behind glass which was facing a window, the glare on the glass made it impossible to see the piece properly.
The prices for the work on show were in the thousands which i think was fair, although price is irrelevant, this exhibition was superb.
